I have examined these themes in the past by creating paintings that intentionally present an ambiguous
outcome for the viewer; producing works that are abstract by design yet, which clearly allude to an original architectural
source through their pictorial content." (Michael Craik, 2007)
Craik constructs the surface of each work into a three-dimensional geometric relief, the resulting
paintings are almost sculptural in appearance; an assemblage of geometric layers, subtly revealed when viewed from
different angles. This new body of work represents a significant development in Craik's carefully structured method
of working, and explores the role architecture continues to play in his painting process.
