Jackie Anderson 11 August - 8 September 2005
In this exhibition of new paintings, Scottish artist Jackie Anderson explores gesture, movement
and notions of privacy in public. Anderson's most recent work is based on photographs taken of
strangers as they moved through urban spaces. Near transparent washes of paint record these
people passing by buildings, cash machines, and each other, lost in their own thoughts.
Otherwise banal, forgotten moments of everyday life are transformed into striking, evocative
images.
"Anderson's portraits dispense with the relationship between artist and sitter, catching her
subjects unawares, presenting their most private moments, those spent alone in public.
