Ingrid Holmqvist's series 'Solid Transience' considers heat and cold – elements that
master the conditions of life. Holmqvist works with ice, snow and sunlight to produce
her images:
"Everything is constantly changing. To describe a specific state, we have
created a scale system with two extremes opposed to each other. The statement 'It is cold
today' implies that it can either become colder or milder. People who have frozen to death
have often undressed before dying, as if they experienced the cold as burning heat. The
life span of ice formations is relatively short. Although they no longer exist as ice, the
water always exists in one shape or another. Nothing is lost, it is only changed."
